When I first moved to LA I went to a bar called Normandie Club in Koreatown. I ordered an Old Fashioned like I usually do and I was greeted with the most magnificent block of clear ice I'd ever seen or sipped from. It was magic to me. I asked where they got their ice and they told me the same place where every good bar in the city goes, Penny Pound.
I spent a couple months getting to know the team behind Penny Pound and their ethos for ice. It's a small band of pirates who care deeply about craft and purpose. Every single rock of ice is hand pulled, hand cut, and hand packed. I recorded for a few days and put together my ode to ice a la Penny Pound.
